Partickhill Extension

Extension and refurbishment - Glasgow West End

When George Buchanan Architects were appointed to reimagine this traditional villa in Partickhill, the home suffered from several key shortcomings: poor connection to the garden, a dark and constrained rear layout, and a small, inefficient kitchen that lacked any sense of occasion.

Our design response addresses these limitations through a bold yet sensitive transformation. A contemporary two-storey rear extension now introduces generous, light-filled living spaces that flow seamlessly into the garden, creating the “wow” space the home was missing. Large sliding doors dissolve the boundary between inside and out, transforming daily living and entertaining.

While the elegant Victorian frontage remains faithful to the home’s original character, the new rear accommodation delivers modern luxury, comfort, and openness. Using a refined palette of sandstone and zinc, the extension sits as a calm, contemporary counterpart to the historic fabric - enhancing the home without overpowering it.
