Bearsden
Extension and refurbishment
- Bearsden
When George Buchanan Architects were appointed to reimagine this Beardsden home, the property suffered from a fragmented layout, mismatched dormers, and a weak connection to the garden that limited light, space, and modern family living. Our response reshaped the house into a cohesive, contemporary residence while respecting its original character.
Internally, we reorganised the ground floor to create a full-width open-plan kitchen–living–dining space along the rear elevation, introduced a new snug opening into the main living area, and formed a master suite with ensuite and a larger family bathroom upstairs. Externally, we unified the mismatched aesthetic with a consistent dormer design, a refined rear extension, and zinc- and timber-clad elements that enrich views and bring visual coherence.
Generous new openings across the rear façade maximise daylight and dissolve the barrier between inside and out, strengthening the home’s connection to the garden. The result is a calm, elegant, and light-filled family home that honours the property’s charm while meeting the demands of modern living.
