In 2014, George Buchanan Architects were appointed to design single storey extensions to two neighbouring semi-detached, 1930s villas in Kelvindale, Glasgow.
Both clients sought rear extensions, but with differing internal requirements to suit their own family circumstances. With each, we sought to incorporate an element of height within the extensions along with multiple windows and rooflights in order to create light and airy spaces and to bring light into the deep plans created.
The proposals also saw the formation of rear patio areas, cut into the steeply sloping gardens. This involved the removal of circa 300 tonnes of soil from the site!
Whilst the projects were separate commissions and with separate construction contracts, we co-ordinated the projects to allow delivery through a single contractor.
The extensions were completed February 2015.
