We were tasked to design the transformation of a Victorian villa into a contemporary home for modern family living. In addition to an expansive extension forming a large open plan kitchen / dining area, the brief included creating a link to and conversion of the existing garage to provide a home gym and study.
A simple palette of quality materials such as sandstone (reclaimed from demolishing a previous extension to the house), zinc rainscreen cladding and high performance glazing was selected.
Through a collaborative approach with the Structural Engineer, David Narro Associates, supporting steelwork was hidden within external wall panels and in between the clerestory glazing. This allowed a clean, uncluttered extension to be formed and natural light to flood the new space.
General refurbishment of traditional features ensured the property was restored to the highest standard with re-instatement of cornicing and ceiling roses, roof and stone repairs, and full restoration of all internal woodwork.
The project commenced on site August 2012 and completed in February 2013.
